The Project’s vision of healthcare for the poor is founded on 5 key principles:
-
Responsible – People should be enabled to take responsibility for their own healthcare. All healthcare provision must be sustainable within the ability to pay of a population.
-
Empowering – People should have control over what is appropriate healthcare for them. Therefore, healthcare choices should be governed by the people.
-
Accessible – Healthcare provision that is owned and managed by the people should be accessible to the people, geographically and financially.
-
Community – Healthcare can only be effectively provided and managed through a community effort.
-
Healthcare – Poor health is one of the major barriers to overcoming poverty, and provision of healthcare services is fundamental to poverty reduction.
